AVA’S POINT OF VIEW

I followed Lucian toward the section reserved for the royal seats, trying and failing-not to notice the curious glances that followed us.
The seats were positioned perfectly in front of the stage, separated from the rest of the audience and elevated just enough to give whoever sat there an uninterrupted view of the performance. I hadn’t booked them. In fact, I hadn’t even known seats like this existed until we’d been escorted here.
Apparently, being Lucian’s company came with privileges.
Or perhaps being with Alpha Lucian came with privileges.
Either way, I wasn’t about to complain.
People stared as we passed. Some tried to be discreet about it, their eyes flickering toward Lucian before quickly darting away whenever he happened to glance in their direction. Others didn’t bother hiding their surprise at all. Still, no one approached us. No one whispered loudly enough for me to hear.
Lucian had that effect on people.
The guards followed closely behind us until Lucian stopped beside our seats and glanced over his shoulder.
“Leave.”
That was all he said.
The guards immediately bowed their heads and disappeared without another word.
I couldn’t help smiling.
No hesitation. No questions. Just one command, and everyone moved.
Alpha things.
Taking my seat beside him, I turned toward him and picked up the menu resting on the table.
“So,” I said, smiling at him, “what would you like to eat?”
Lucían glanced down at the menu, his dark brows drawing together slightly as he studied it.
“Whatever you’re having.”

“No, it’s not.” I shook my head, suppressing a laugh. “You have to choose something.”
For a moment, he simply looked at me.
Then, with what seemed like reluctant patience, he picked up the menu again.
I waited while he scanned through it before pointing out a few options. I nodded readily, satisfied.
His gaze lifted to mine.
Those deep black eyes of his held mine, calm and unreadable as always, though something shifted behind them. Surprise, perhaps. Interest.
“Don’t you think you’re being extorted?” he asked.
I turned fully toward him, a confident smile tugging at my lips.
“I said I’d treat you, and I didn’t set a price limit. So how exactly is that extortion?”
Something flickered across his face.
It was gone so quickly I almost wondered if I’d imagined it.
Before I could think about it, I caught the attention of a passing waitress.
“We’ll have the charred bone marrow, the moon oysters, and the blood carpaccio,” I said, handing her the menu.
The waitress accepted it with a polite smile, but her expression shifted the moment she noticed who was sitting beside me.
Her eyes widened slightly,
“Alpha.”
She immediately lowered her head.
Lucian didn’t react.
His attention was fixed somewhere ahead of us, his expression settling into that familiar, cold mask. It was as though she hadn’t spoken at all.

Lhad to stop myself from rolling my eyes.
Seriously?
I smiled at her instead.
“His order is included in what I just mentioned. You can bring those.”
“Of course.”
She turned to leave, but I stopped her.

“Oh, wait.” I glanced down at the menu. “Could you also bring the bill? I didn’t see any prices listed.”
The waitress smiled.
“Oh, you don’t need to pay anything, ma’am.”
My’smile faded.
I slowly turned toward Lucian.
He was already looking at me.
“Didn’t we agree that I would treat?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.
He leaned closer.
My breath caught before I could stop it.
Lucian was already attractive from a distance. That was something I had known for a long time. But
this close?
It was almost unfair.
The sharp line of his jaw. The dark sweep of his lashes against his skin. The way his black hair fell effortlessly around his forehead, slightly untamed despite how composed everything else about him. seemed. And his eyes-
God.
Those eyes.
They were even darker up close, deep enough that I sometimes felt as though he could see every thought I was trying desperately to hide.
His face moved toward mine, and my body went completely still.

Karla, who had been unusually quiet, suddenly stiffened too.

Lucian lowered his head until his lips were close to my ear.
“It’s free, Ava.”
His voice was quiet.
Warm.
And entirely too close.
A shiver slipped down my spine before I could stop it.
My heart gave one hard, embarrassing thump.
Then another.
I forgot how to breathe.
The way he said my name made it worse.
Not Ava.
Ava.
Like it belonged differently when it came from his mouth.
My lips parted, but nothing came out.
Absolutely nothing.
Karla had gone silent inside my head.
Traitor.
I guess he had that effect on everyone. It was probably just one of the many perks of being
ridiculously attractive.
At least, that was exactly what I told myself.
“If everything is settled, I’ll take my leave now, ma’am.”
The waitress’s voice snapped me back to reality.
I blinked and looked at her, suddenly remembering that another person was standing right there.
“Y-yes,” I managed.

She smiled politely before walking away.
I waited until she’d disappeared before turning back to Lucian
“B-but we agreed that would treat you.”
Lucian met my eyes.
His gaze didn’t waver.
“Is the food free because you’re their Alpha?” I asked.
“No.”
I frowned.
“This seat includes complimentary meals. It’s part of the reservation.”
“Oh.”
I looked around the private section again.
“But I didn’t even pay for the seat.”
His eyes settled on mine once more.
Something glinted there.
Something faint and unreadable that disappeared before I could understand it.
“That’s because I’m their Alpha.”
A smile spread across my lips.
“Oh, so because you’re the Alpha, everything in your pack is free?”
For the briefest second, the corner of his mouth twitched.
It wasn’t quite a smile.
But it was dangerously close.
“No. These seats are reserved for high-ranking wolves.”
I nodded slowly.
“Ah. That makes more sense.

The performers hadn’t come out yet, but the anticipation in the room had already begun to build. From where we sat, the entire stage stretched.before us without anything blocking our view.
It was perfect.
Almost too perfect.
I leaned slightly toward Lucian again, lowering my voice.
“Have you ever come here before?”
He didn’t turn to look at me.
“No.”
His answer came as calmly as ever.
I smiled and leaned back in my seat.
“Then I guess we’re both experiencing it for the first time.”
Lucian said nothing.
The lights dimmed slightly, and the soft murmur of the crowd began to fade.
I rested my hands in my lap, my eyes fixed on the stage as I waited for the performance-and our food
-to begin.
Tonight was supposed to be a celebration.
Dinner. Entertainment. A beautiful night among the wolves of Lucian’s pack.
And for some people, it probably would be.
But by the time the night was over, I had a feeling not everyone would be leaving with the same smile they had arrived with.
