Chapter 56

LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW

My expression changed before I could stop it.

The moment Dad noticed, his brows drew together. Nothing escaped him when it came to me,

especially not when I was trying this hard to pretend everything was fine.

“Logan, did you and Ava have a fight?”

“No.”

The answer came out too quickly.

I shook my head and looked away, my jaw tightening as Ava’s face flashed through my mind. I could still picture her sitting there with that man, looking far too comfortable in a place she had no business

being with another male.

“Ava is somewhere enjoying herself,” Celine suddenly said.

Despite the pain she had been enduring, she forced herself upright, her expression sharpening as if

she had been waiting for the right moment to say it.

Dad’s gaze immediately turned cold.

“Ava is your sister-in-law. How can you speak about her with such disrespect?”

“Dad…”

Celine stepped closer, her face stern and indignant. She looked as though she had been unfairly accused, and for a moment, she simply stared at him before shaking her head.

“Don’t blame me for disrespecting her when what she did doesn’t deserve respect. Do you even know

what she’s been doing while our pack is facing such a huge crisis?”

Her voice rose, and she turned toward Mum.

Mum, who had been sitting quietly after hitting Celine, slowly lifted her eyes. The anger on her face faded into a tense curiosity as she waited for Celine to continue.

“Our pack is bankrupt. Everything is falling apart, and what is Ava doing?” Celine demanded.

She paused deliberately.

Then she said, “She’s having dinner with another man.”

Mum went completely still.

“What?”

“Mum, Ava isn’t even in the pack. She’s in another rich pack, having dinner with a man. They went to

the Sovereign Restaurant in Blackwood Pack and sat in the Sovereign Royal section. Do you know

what the minimum charge is there?”

The room had grown so quiet that Celine’s next words seemed to land even harder.

“Twenty million.”

Mum’s eyes widened.

Even Dad straightened slightly at the mention of the amount, his expression shifting from confusion to

disbelief.

Celine seemed to take their reactions as encouragement.

“Logan and Anaya both saw them. Ava was wearing a strapless dress, and she was holding the man’s

arm.”

“Enough!”

Mum’s voice cut through the room.

She rose so abruptly that the movement made me flinch. Her face had gone red, her chest rising and falling as she struggled to contain the fury building inside her.

“That shameless woman has the nerve to call herself a Luna?”

Her hands curled tightly at her sides.

Then her eyes snapped toward me.

“And you!”

The force of her voice made my shoulders tense.

“How did I end up raising such a useless piece of trash? You’ve lost everything, your pack is bankrupt,

and you can’t even control your own mate!”

“Mom, please.”

The words slipped out before I could stop them. My head was already pounding, and the pressure in the room felt like it was pressing against my skull.

“Please stop making this worse.”

Fenrir let out a long, irritated growl inside

my

mind.

My head is beginning to hurt.

I closed my eyes briefly.

I had just watched my pack collapse. Everything I had worked for felt as though it had been ripped from beneath my feet, and instead of having a moment to breathe, I was standing there while my own

mother tore into me.

Anger burned beneath the heaviness in my chest, but there was something else there too. Something

far more humiliating.

A part of me knew she was right.

“Oh, so I’m making things worse?”

Mum gave a bitter laugh, staring at me as if she couldn’t believe I had dared to defend Ava.

“You can’t control your spendthrift mate, and now you won’t even let me say anything? Ava can spend twenty million on a single meal with some handsome man, and you expect me to stay quiet?”

She began pacing the room, too furious to remain still.

“If that twenty million had gone toward saving your pack, maybe Silvercrest wouldn’t be standing at the edge of collapse right now!”

She stopped and pressed a hand to her chest, shaking her head.

“No. I’ve had enough. I’m calling Ava here tonight, and I’m going to teach her a lesson she won’t

forget.”

A heavy exhaustion settled over me.

Everything was too much.

The bankruptcy. Ava. Mum’s anger. The disappointment in Dad’s eyes. Celine standing there,

watching it all unfold,

I wasn’t in the mood for any of it.

I wanted to stop Mum. I knew calling Ava over now would only create another disaster.

But when I opened my mouth, no words came out.

And even though Silvercrest had not yet gone bankrupt when she had that dinner, the image of her

sitting with another man still sat badly with me.

Ava was mated.

She was my Luna.

How could she sit openly with another man in public, hold his arm, and spend such an outrageous amount of money on a single dinner?

The thought left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Maybe Mum was going too far, but Ava had crossed a line too.

She deserved a warning.

So I said nothing.

I let Mum take the phone and dial Ava’s number.

But before the call could go through, Dad suddenly reached over, snatched the phone from her hand,

and ended it.

Mum stared at him.

“What are you doing?”

Dad’s face was grim as he lowered the phone.

“Although Ava is our daughter-in-law, she is still Evander’s daughter. Even if she has made a mistake,

it is not our place to punish her.”

“And what do you suggest we do?” Mum shot back. “Just let this go?”

Her anger was no longer contained.

“If we let this go, what happens next time? She’ll spend two hundred million on some man she meets at a bar, and we’ll still be expected to remain silent! How can this family show its face in high society if people hear that we’re afraid of our own daughter-in-law?”

Dad’s expression darkened.

For a moment, it seemed even he had no answer.

Then he said, “In short, you are not getting involved in this matter. I have my own plans.”

Mum’s lips pressed into a thin line.

She had been denied the chance to confront Ava, and I could see how much that frustrated her. Her eyes swept over the three of us with undisguised irritation.

“Get out.”

None of us moved.

Her voice rose.

“I said get out! All of you! I’m annoyed just looking at you!”.

And that was how Celine, Anaya, and I ended up being thrown out of the house.

I didn’t say another word.

By the time I got into the car, the pounding in my head had only worsened.

I gripped the steering wheel and drove.

My house.

Celine sat in the passenger seat like she always did, while Anaya remained quiet in the back. The silence inside the car was thick, but I had no energy left to break it.

When we finally stopped in front of the house, I didn’t even turn off the engine.

“Take Anaya inside.”

Celine’s expression immediately changed.

“What about you?”

I stared ahead at the dark road.

“I’m going to clear my head.”

My voice came out flat.

“Let me come with you…”

“No.”

I didn’t even look at her.

For a few seconds, Celine seemed as though she wanted to argue. Her lips parted, then closed again. Whatever she had been about to say died in the silence between us.

Eventually, she lowered her gaze and got out of the car with Anaya.

I waited until they were walking toward the house.

Then I stepped on the accelerator and drove away.

By the time night had settled over the city, I was already drunk.

The bar was dim, the music loud enough to blur into the background, and the bottle in my hand had

become the only thing that seemed capable of quieting the thoughts in my head.

Axel sat across from me.

“Alpha, you really can’t drink anymore.”

When he reached for the bottle, I pulled it closer to my chest and roughly pushed his hand away.

“Leave me alone.”

My words were slightly slurred.

“Just let me drink.”

The bottle was cool against my palm, and I lifted it again, swallowing more than I should have.

Fenrir was silent.

For once, even my wolf seemed to understand that there was nothing he could say that would make

this better.

Axel watched me quietly.

He knew about the bankruptcy.

He knew Silvercrest had fallen.

But knowing and being able to fix it were two different things, and there was nothing Axel could do for

Nothing any of them could do.

Axel, Asher, Dorian, and I had been friends since childhood. We had grown up together, fought

together, and imagined the future together.

Then Asher disappeared.

No one knew what had happened to him.

And now we had gone bankrupt.

Axel glanced at the time.

“Dorian is probably asleep by now.”

I didn’t answer.

I simply took another drink.

“Logan…”

His voice had changed.

I knew what was coming before he said it.

“Do you really think Celine is bad luck?”

I stared down at the drink in my hand.

The room swayed slightly when I moved, but I kept drinking.

Axel sighed.

“I haven’t seen Asher smile since he married Celine. Then he suddenly disappeared.”

My fingers tightened around the bottle.

“And now look at you. This pack was doing perfectly well before everything started going wrong.”

His voice was quieter now, but the words still found their way beneath my skin.

“Your pack has gone bankrupt, and somehow, Celine is right there in the middle of it too.”

I lifted my eyes to him.

Axel looked genuinely confused.

“I just don’t understand, Logan.”

He leaned back in his chair, studying me.
