LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW

Hearing him say that, I slowly pushed myself upright.
The alcohol burned its way down my throat, leaving a bitter heat in my chest as memories I had spent years trying to bury came rushing back. For a moment, the room around me seemed to tilt, Axel’s face
blurring at the edges.
“Celine…” I murmured.
Just saying her name made something tighten painfully inside me.
“She is my savior.”
My eyes were burning. Whether it was the alcohol or the memories, I could no longer tell.
“I know that,” Axel replied, and there was a sharp edge to his voice. “You’ve told us that a thousand
times.”
Of course I had.
Everyone knew the reason my family had adopted Celine.
She had been an orphan with no one to call her own when she saved my life all those years ago.
I had been younger then, still in junior Academy High, when I went on a school trip to Nightfell Pack. It was supposed to be an ordinary trip. A few days away from home. A chance to explore the scenic
areas surrounding the pack.
Then everything changed.
One careless moment.
One snake bite.
I still remembered the weakness that had spread through my body afterward. I remembered
collapsing. I remembered the voices around me fading until the world had become frighteningly quiet.
And then…
A voice.
Soft.
Steady.

Warm.
“Luckily, you met me. Don’t worry. You won’t die.”

Even now, after all these years, I could not clearly remember what she had looked like at that moment.
But I remembered how that voice had made me feel.
I remembered clinging to it when everything inside me had been fading.
When I finally regained consciousness, I learned that Celine had done everything she could to keep me
alive until help came.
She had saved me.
That was the beginning of everything.
“You don’t understand, Axel,” I said, leaning back against the chair.
The alcohol had loosened something inside me. Maybe that was why the words came so easily now.
“I was already smitten before I ever saw Celine’s face.”
Axel’s expression changed.
“That accident…” I continued quietly, my fingers tightening around the bottle in my hand. “That was my
first encounter with love.”
For a few seconds, neither of us spoke.
Then Axel sighed.
“What about Ava?” he asked. “Have you ever stopped to think about how Ava feels?”
The warmth in my chest immediately turned bitter.
I slowly lifted my gaze to him.
“Axel, you just said heard me say my family adopted Celine to repay a debt of gratitude, right?”
“Isn’t that what happened?”
I let out a quiet, humorless laugh and shook my head.
“No.”
Axel frowned.

“Adopting Celine was the closest thing my family ever did to repaying kindness with cruelty.”
“What are you talking about?”
I stared at the bottle in my hand for a moment before taking another drink.
“Ava’s family and mine have been close for generations. Ava and I were fated to each other before
either of us was even born.”
Axe! remained silent.
“Even though I never loved her, my parents still insisted that mate her. And when they realized how I
felt about Celine…”
My jaw tightened.
“They brought Celine into our family.”
Understanding slowly crossed his face.
“My parents thought that making her my sister would separate us,” I continued. “They thought it would make her give up on me.”
The room seemed quieter now.
“If Ava hadn’t been waiting for a place beside me that I never wanted to give her, Celine and I would
never have been forced into this.”
Axel gave a short laugh, but there was no amusement in it.
“This isn’t Ava’s fault, Logan. She was kept in the dark just like everyone else. Isn’t she innocent?”
I stared at him.
Normally, that was where the conversation would end.
I would tell him to mind his own business. I would remind him that I was the Alpha, and he would
eventually back down.
Axel and Dorian had always had something to say when it came to Ava.
Dorian was kinder toward her. Sometimes, though, I caught something else in his eyes whenever he
looked at her.
Guilt.
Maybe that was why he rarely came around anymore. Why his conversations with Ava had become

fewer and fewer.
Axel, on the other hand, had always been cold toward her.
That was what confused me the most.

For someone who barely showed her any warmth, he certainly seemed determined to defend her.
And the worst part was…
I knew Ava was innocent.
I knew I owed her in ways I could never repay.
But…
“It’s because Ava doesn’t respect herself,” I said.
Axel stared at me.
“If she had even a little self-respect, maybe I wouldn’t be completely indifferent toward her.”
His expression hardened.
I lifted the bottle again, the alcohol now making my face feel hot.
“Ava had the nerve to go on a date with a man from Blackwood Pack.”
At the mention of the pack, Axel’s eyebrows rose in surprise.
“And she calls herself a Luna.”
My words were beginning to slur slightly now, though my anger only seemed to sharpen.
“She doesn’t even act like one.”
I could feel the heat spreading through my face, and I wasn’t sure whether it came from the alcohol or
the frustration twisting inside me.
“For example, when I went bankrupt…” I said.
Axel watched me carefully,
“Do you know what Ava was doing?”
He slowly shook his head.
“She spent twenty million on a dinner for some man she met at a bar.”

That finally silenced him.
For a moment, I felt strangely relieved.
There.
Now he had nothing to say.

Even though Celine had caused my pack’s financial problems, she had never intended to destroy me. She had been careless. She had trusted the wrong people and gotten herself involved in something she did not fully understand.
But Ava’s actions…
Those had been deliberate.
As the thought settled inside me, something uncomfortable began to creep into my chest.
I looked down at the drink in my hand.
Maybe I had been too harsh toward Celine tonight.
She had made mistakes.
Many mistakes.
But hadn’t she always done things believing she was helping me? Believing she was helping our pack?
Unlike Ava…
You’re kidding me, right?
Fenrir’s voice rumbled through my mind.
I ignored him.
Logan.
I ignored him again.
The wolf let out a low, unimpressed growl.
Despite the amount of alcohol I had consumed, I was beginning to feel strangely sober.
Maybe it was because I suddenly knew what I needed to do.
I needed to go home.

With a heavy breath, I pushed myself to my feet. The room swayed around me, and I steadied myself
against the table.
Axel watched me without saying a word.
His expression had changed.
He looked like he was thinking about something.
I barely noticed.
I had just reached for my phone when the screen lit up.
Celine.
My heart immediately lurched.
I answered the call.
“Celine…” I said quickly.
But the voice that answered wasn’t hers.
“Dad…”
Everything inside me froze.
“Anaya?”
Her breathing was uneven.
“Dad… please come home soon.”
The fear in her voice cut through every trace of alcohol in my system.
I straightened.
“What happened, Naya?”
“Mom…” Her voice broke. “I saw Mom… She’s going to take her medicine…”
For one horrifying second, my mind went completely blank.
“What?”
“Mom apologized to me. She said she was sorry, and then she said…”

Her voice cracked again.
“She said she had to go somewhere else first.”
The bottle slipped from my fingers and hit the floor.
“Stop your mother, Naya.
My voice came out rough and sharp.
“I’m coming home.”
I ended the call.
Then I ran.
“Logan!” Axel called after me.
I barely heard him.
Fenrir was already moving beneath my skin.

The shift tore through me in a rush of instinct and desperation. My bones reshaped, my senses
sharpened, and within seconds, the world exploded into a blur of scents, sounds, and moonlit
shadows.
Then Fenrir was free.
My paws struck the ground hard.
Once.
Twice.
Then faster.
The trees rushed past us as we tore through the night, branches whipping against my fur while the
wind roared in my ears.
Faster, Fenrir,
I’m trying.
Not fast enough!
I pushed harder.
My heart hammered against my ribs with every stride.

The alcohol was still somewhere inside me, making the world spin at the edges, but the fear had burned through most of it.
Celine.
The thought was all that remained.
Celine.
I had to get to her.
I had to make sure she was still there.
Fenrir ran until the ground beneath us became a blur.
By the time we reached the house, I barely waited for my paws to touch the ground before I shifted
back.
Axel came to a stop behind me.
I turned toward him, my chest rising and falling heavily.
“Don’t leave yet.”
He frowned.
“Just in case…”
The words caught in my throat.
Just in case something happened to Celine.
I couldn’t bring myself to finish the thought.
After giving him that instruction, I rushed toward the house.
I stumbled slightly as I ran upstairs, my body still struggling with the alcohol I had consumed earlier, but I forced myself forward.
When I reached the door, I threw it open.
And there she was.

Celine was sitting on the sofa.
Anaya was beside her, crying so hard her entire body shook.
“Celine!”
I crossed the room in seconds and immediately pulled the medication away from her.

“What are you trying to do?” I demanded, my voice shaking despite my attempt to sound angry.
Celine looked up at me.
Her eyes were red and swollen with tears.
“Logan…”
The sound of my name on her lips broke something inside me.
“Because I’m useless,” she whispered. “I’ve only dragged you down. Since you don’t love me
anymore… I thought there was no reason for me to live.”
My chest tightened.
“Who told you I don’t love you anymore?”
She stared at me.
I didn’t wait for her answer.
I pulled her into my arms.
“Celine…”
I held her tighter, burying my face against her hair as my heart continued to race.
For a terrifying moment, I had thought I was too late.
The realization made my arms tighten around her.
“I swore that I would love you for the rest of my life,” I said.
My voice was low, but there was nothing uncertain about it now.
“No matter what happens, I will not break that promise.”
She slowly pulled back and looked at me through her tears.
“Really?”

“Yes.
I cupped her face gently.
“I love you, Celine.”
The words came out of me with more emotion than I had expected.
“You’re mine. You have always been the one I wanted.”
Her lips trembled.
“Logan… you’re so good to me. Isn’t this too much for you?”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“It’s not.”
I pulled her back into my arms.
“But promise me something.”
She held onto my shirt.
“Promise me that you won’t ever make me fear losing you like that again.”
There was a long silence before she nodded against my chest.
“I promise.”
Her arms tightened around me.
I held her there, listening as Anaya’s crying slowly began to quiet.
I finally allowed myself to breathe.
