LOGAN’S POINT OF VIEW
After leaving Ava’s father’s banquet, I followed Dad back to the packhouse.
By the time we reached his office, I already knew what was coming.

Dad had barely settled behind his desk before he began talking about the pack’s projects. Trade routes. Investments. The things we needed to rebuild after everything that had happened.
But eventually, as I expected, the conversation drifted somewhere else.
Straight to my marriage.
“You saw it today,” Dad said, leaning back in his chair. “Your father-in-law, Evander, is an extremely
important man-not only to our family, but to this entire pack.”
I stood quietly, listening.
“I don’t care what kind of relationship you have with Ava,” he continued. “But you must keep things
calm between you two.”
His hand landed on my shoulder.
It was supposed to be reassuring.
Instead, my entire body stiffened.
“Ava might be a little playful,” Dad said casually. “Maybe she likes the attention of one or two
handsome men.”
My fingers curled at my sides.
Slowly.
Tightly.
The muscles in my jaw locked.
A little playful.
That was what he called it.
I pictured Ava sitting across from that man again. Laughing with him. Looking at him in a way I hadn’t
seen her look at me in months.

Something lot twisted beneath my ribs.
I said nothing.
Dad either didn’t notice or didn’t care.

“Just turn a blind eye,” he continued. “Women can be like that. Buy her a few things. Coax her when necessary. More importantly, use the relationship to bring benefits to the pack. That’s what really
matters.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than his words.
I forced myself to nod.
“I understand, Dad.”
Do you?
Fenrir’s voice slid into my mind, almost lazily.
I closed my eyes for a moment.
The anger I’d been holding back pressed against my chest like something alive, desperate to claw its
way out.
Not now, Fenrir.
He gave a low, humorless scoff.
Of course. Because pretending you don’t care has worked wonderfully for you so far.
I ignored him.
By the time evening arrived, I had spent enough time pretending to care about pack business.
The sun had disappeared beyond the horizon when I finally stepped out of the packhouse.
Celine was waiting outside.
She stood beside Anaya, her hand wrapped gently around the little girl’s. The moment she saw me, Celine’s expression softened.
“Logan. Are you done with work?”
I frowned slightly.
“Why are you here?”

Before she answered, Celine glanced down at Anaya.
Anaya immediately stepped forward and held out a small box.
I looked down at it.
“A cake?”
Celine smiled.

“Anaya noticed that you barely ate anything at lunch. When I took her out to get some cakes, she
insisted on saving one for you. She said she wanted to bring it to Daddy herself.”
Something in my chest loosened.
I crouched in front of Anaya.
“You did that for me?”
She nodded enthusiastically.
I couldn’t help smiling as I lifted her into my arms.
“You’re such a thoughtful little princess.”
Her tiny arms wrapped around my neck.
For the first time that day, the weight pressing against my chest eased slightly.
Oh, come on.
Fenrir sounded almost offended.
Don’t start getting emotional over a cake.
I ignored him again.
“Come on,” I said, adjusting Anaya in my arms. “Daddy’s going to buy you a new princess dress.”
“Yay!” she squealed.
That time, Fenrir said nothing.

During dinner at the banquet earlier, Ava’s spending on another man had been exposed in front of
everyone.

And yet somehow, Dad had still managed to turn the entire situation into an opportunity.
Evander had given our pack exclusive access to a rare medicinal-herb trade.

A valuable one.
Useful.
Profitable.
And suddenly, Ava’s position in my life became even more complicated.
Because of the influence her father had over our family, divorcing her wasn’t an option.
Not now.
Maybe not anytime soon.
The thought should have made me angry.
Instead, something else unsettled me.
Because even without the business. Even without Evander.
I wasn’t entirely sure I could let her go. D
Not when the image of her with that man kept finding its way back into my mind.
I took Celine and Anaya shopping at the mall.
Anaya immediately found several dresses she liked, and before long, I had bought three of them.
The sight of her excitement almost made the ridiculous amount of money I’d spent worth it.
Almost.
I was already struggling financially after everything that had happened to the pack. I had managed to get some support from Dad and whatever little income came my way, but it was nowhere near enough
to replace what I’d lost.
So I tried to spend carefully.
You call this careful?
Fenrir asked as the cashier continued scanning items.
I stared straight ahead.

For Celine, I chose à silk scarf.
It was expensive enough to feel like a gift without making me regret it immediately.
But when I reached the counter, I picked up another one.
Celine noticed.
Her eyes widened slightly.
“Logan, one is enough.”
“Oh… uh…”
The words caught in my throat.
I stared at the second scarf.
Then, reluctantly, I said, “The other one is for Ava.”
The change in Celine’s expression was immediate.
Her smile disappeared.
Her lips tightened for only a second before she tried to hide it.
But I noticed.
Of course I did.
I looked away.
After shopping, the three of us had dinner at a café before I drove Celine and Anaya home.
By then, Anaya could barely keep her eyes open.
She fell asleep in her car seat before we even reached the house.
I carried her upstairs and tucked her into bed.
For a while, I simply stood there, watching her sleep.
Peaceful.
Unaware of everything that was falling apart around me.

My life had become a mess.
My pack had gone bankrupt.
My marriage was barely hanging together.
Ava had been seen with another man

And Dad had spent the evening telling me to smile and tolerate it because her family was useful to us.
I was exhausted.
Not just physically.
There was a heaviness inside me that sleep couldn’t seem to touch.
I hadn’t planned to leave the house again that night.
I didn’t even have the energy to think.
But when I stepped out of Anaya’s room, Celine was waiting in the hallway.
She had changed into a delicate nightgown and was clearly trying to get my attention.
For a moment, I simply looked at her.
Celine was beautiful.
Gentle.
Everything Ava wasn’t supposed to be.
And yet-
My mind betrayed me.
Ava’s face appeared behind my eyes.
But I quickly shook the thought away the moment Celine moved closer, wrapping her arms around my
neck.
My Adam’s apple bobbed as I swallowed, my mouth suddenly dry.
“Celine…”
“Baby…”
She came to me slow. Delicate. Her cheeks flushed.

Then she knelt in front of me.
“Tonight… let me take care of you.”
My eyes widened.
The sound of my zipper was the only thing in the room for a second.
Then it was filled with my moans instead.

I spent some quiet time with Celine before the night finally settled around the house.
Later, after showering and changing, I quietly checked the bedrooms.
Celine was asleep.
Anaya was asleep beside her.
The entire house had fallen silent.
I stood there for several seconds.
Then I made my decision.
Once I was far enough from the house, I shifted.
The transformation came easily, my body giving way to Fenrir as my paws struck the ground.
I took the handbag in my mouth and ran.
Faster.
The night air rushed through my fur as I crossed the distance between packs, heading toward
Mooncrest.
Green Fairy.
Nyx’s shop.
I hadn’t contacted Ava.
After everything that had happened that day, I knew she couldn’t possibly be in a good mood. Her father had humiliated her, and Ava had always had a particular way of dealing with her emotions.
Whenever things became too much, she went to Nyx’s shop.

I knew her habits.
Probably better than I wanted to admit.
Ava wasn’t gentle and soft-spoken like Celine.
She didn’t always know how to comfort me.
She didn’t make things easy.
But Dad’s words continued to echo inside my head.
No matter how difficult Ava could be, she was still my mate.
And-
My pace slowed.
I remembered the man.
The one I had seen with her at Nyx’s shop.

This wasn’t the first time I’d seen Ava around men. She had always attracted attention, and sometimes she deliberately entertained it just to get under my skin.
But that man was different.
I couldn’t explain why.
There was something about him that bothered me more than the others ever had.
The way Ava had looked at him.
The way he had looked at her.
It wasn’t casual.
It didn’t feel like one of Ava’s little games.
You don’t like him.
Fenrir’s voice was quiet.
I kept running.
I don’t care about him.
He was silent for a moment.

Liar.
My paws struck the earth harder.
I hated that he was right.
I hated that the thought of that man touching Ava’s life in a way I no longer could made something
inside me ache.
For four years, Ava had been mine.
Not in the possessive way Fenrir sometimes liked to imagine, but because we had belonged to each
other’s lives.
Somewhere along the way, that had changed.
Celine had come into my life.
I had neglected Ava.
And Ava-
Ava had found someone else to give her attention to.
Maybe she’d done it to hurt me.
Maybe she’d done it because she was lonely.
Or maybe-
The thought came before I could stop it.
Maybe she actually liked him.
My stomach twisted.
No.
Fenrir’s voice was firmer now.
You don’t know that.
I forced myself to keep moving.
I hadn’t contacted Ava because I wanted to surprise her.

That was all.
Women liked surprises.
Ava was no different.
At least, that was what I told myself.

But the moment I entered Green Fairy and looked around Nyx’s shop, something felt wrong.
Ava wasn’t there.
I looked again.
Nothing.
My chest tightened.
Then I realized something else.
The man wasn’t there either.
The one Ava had taken to the restaurant.
The one who had been occupying far more space in my thoughts than I wanted to admit.
A cold sensation crawled down my spine.
Don’t.
Fenrir’s voice suddenly sharpened.
But it was too late.
My mind had already begun connecting the pieces.
Nyx appeared in front of me, her arms folded tightly across her chest.
“What are you doing here?”
I barely looked at her.
“Where is Ava?”
Nyx said nothing.
Her silence hit harder than any answer could have.

My eyes narrowed.
“Nyx.”
Still nothing.
And suddenly, the unthinkable possibility crashed into me.
They were together.
Somewhere.
Alone.
My blood began to heat.
“Did they go to a hotel?”
Nyx’s expression changed.
That was enough.
My jaw tightened as pain and anger collided inside me.
I hated how quickly it affected me.

Hated that the thought of Ava choosing another man could still make my chest feel like someone had driven a fist straight through it.
“Which hotel?”
“Logan-”
“Which hotel, Nyx?”
My voice came out lower this time.
More dangerous.
