Chapter 7
Those words should have torn me apart. But hearing them now, all I could do was laugh
I didn’t care anymore.
Because the truth was simple. I just didn’t love him anymore.
Hailey wrapped her small, soft arms around my neck. “Mummy, let’s go home. It’s cold out here!”
Adam gently ruffled her hair, full of affection. “Let’s go.”
Smiling, I followed him home, into the warmth that now belonged to us.
The sound of arguing faded behind me. I never looked back.
That night, Adam hugged me from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder.
“Now that he knows,” he said softly, “I’ll announce your identity tomorrow, you and Hailey’s.
Okay?”
He paused. His voice carried a quiet ache. “I don’t want you to be hurt anymore.”
I turned and leaned into his arms, remembering what Sarah had said earlier. “I think that show might be a good opportunity.”
Adam froze for a beat, then understood.
He pressed a gentle kiss to my neck. “Whatever you say. It’s all up to you.”
That night, I slept soundly for the first time in a long while.
The next day, just like always, I finished teaching my violin class and headed to Hailey’s classroom
to pick her up.
But when I opened the door, it was empty.
My heart skipped.
Hands trembling, I grabbed my phone and called Adam. “Adam… Hailey’s gone!”
There was chaos on the other end of the line.
“Allison, don’t panic. I’m on my way right now.”
“Trust me. We’ll find her. She’ll be okay.”
Adam arrived at the school in less than ten minutes.

While he held my shaking body close, trying to calm me down, his team locked down the campus and pulled up the surveillance footage.
On screen, a familiar figure appeared outside the classroom door.
Joshua.
“He wouldn’t dare…” I whispered, barely breathing.
“He wouldn’t dare take my daughter.”
Adam’s expression turned dark, his eyes cold as ice.
He pulled out his phone and gave a chilling order to Nick. “Find out where Joshua is, right now.
“And get the bloodmoon pack council on the line. Tell them I’m claiming Alpha status. If they refuse, we go to war.”
His voice dropped even lower, full of unrelenting threat. “If he touches my daughter, he’s
finished.”
Five minutes later, the intel came back.
“Alpha Adam, Joshua took Hailey to a private hospital.”
“A private hospital?” My stomach turned.
What was he doing to my daughter?
The car raced down the road. My palms were slick with sweat.
When we finally pulled up to the hospital, I practically leapt out of the vehicle.
Following the directions we were given, I found Hailey.
Joshua was crouched in front of her, holding a stuffed animal.
“You look just like your mommy,” he told her softly.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take you home soon.”
I ran over, scooping Hailey into my arms. “Hailey! Are you okay? Let me see!”
She grinned, playful and calm.
“I’m fine, Mommy. This uncle said he knows you, so I wasn’t scared.”
I glanced down and saw the paper in Joshua’s hand. It was a DNA test, still awaiting confirmation.

A paternity test…
I understood immediately.
He didn’t believe Hailey wasn’t his daughter.
I gave a cold laugh, then slapped him hard across the face. “Joshua, Hailey is not your daughter.”
“You’re not even worthy of being the father of my child.”
His eyes pleaded. “The report takes a week. Allison, please…”
“You cut the mate bond just a year before she was born. Isn’t that a little too perfect to be a
coincidence?”
“Give me a chance to make things right. Let me be there for you and Hailey.”
“Make things right?”
He touched Adam’s daughter.
He probably wouldn’t live long enough to regret it.
