I couldn’t remember ever knocking whenever I got to the mansion.
It was simply a habit I’d picked up since Sienna and Elias had moved in. I liked it when she let me into the
house. There was just something about seeing her welcome me home that felt… right. I held Elias’s hand as
I caught sight of her approaching the front door through the glass.
She was in sweatpants, a baggy t-shirt and an apron, and she was still the sexiest woman I had ever laid
my eyes on. Her eyes locked into mine for a second as she pulled the door open and then she was staring
at Elias and opening her arms wide to hug him. I let go of his hand as he ran to give his mother a hug.
They both stepped aside for me to walk in.
Sienna’s eyes lifted to mine again. “Hey,” She greeted softly.
“Hey,” I greeted back. The mansion smelled great. “Already started on dinner?” I asked, jerking my head at
the apron she wore as I took off my coat and hung it on the rack.
She shifted her face in the direction of the kitchen before nodding. I stretched my arm out to Elias. “C’mon
bud,” I said to him. “Let’s head upstairs and freshen up.” Elias pulled away from her and took my hand as
we ascended the stairs. I went to his room with him, making sure he was done taking a shower before
heading to mine as he got dressed.
I’d just stepped out of her shower, with a towel still wrapped around my waist when my bedroom door got
pushed open and Sienna walked in. Her eyes dropped to my waist, and she swallowed thickly before
dragging her gaze back to mine. I barely held back my groan at the heated look in her eyes. I tried to distract myself with thoughts of something unsexy before I tented the towel and made her uncomfortable.
She closed the door quietly behind her, taking cautious steps forward. “I thought you would already be done…” She said awkwardly, explaining why she’d stepped in without knocking. Not that I wanted her to knock in the first place. I wanted her in the room with me, period.
I cleared my throat. “I had a longer shower,” I explained simply.
She nodded, but didn’t speak for a few seconds. I had the sense she didn’t trust herself to. Her eyes roamed round the tattoo on my chest. I stalked to my closet, pulling out a pair of sweatpants similar to the one

she had on, and a white vest. “I paid a visit to the shacks today,” She began. I gave her a small nod to let her know I was listening.
I dropped my towel, almost chuckling humorlessly when she turned around. She was still walking on
eggshells around me, and I hated it. There was no part of me she hadn’t already seen-even if it had been
six years-and yet, she was acting as though we were strangers. I forced down the anger prickling my skin.
What did it matter that I wanted to pin her against the wall and fuck her until she forgot how much of an
asshole I’d been in the past and only remembered how good it had been between us? I had to be patient
with her. “I’m dressed now,” I clipped, pulling down the edge of my vest to cover my torso.
I pretended not to notice her gaze darting below my waist first thing when she turned back around. “You had them destroy my shack,” She said in a rather accusatory tone, her eyes becoming sharper when they
found mine. Finally her words registered in my mind. She’d gone to the lower village? I wanted to ask if
she’d had a warrior with her, but I knew it would be the wrong response to give right now.
“I did,” I replied simply.
“Why?” She asked. A hurt expression crossed her face before she hid it behind the mask she’d been trying to perfect lately. “Did you want me gone so bad, you couldn’t stand knowing the shack I stayed in was still
in your pack?”
Somehow her question angered me.
Did she really think it had been that simple? That I’d thrown a feast and celebrated after sending her away from the pack. I couldn’t help it-I stalked towards her in a predatory manner. She didn’t step back like 1 thought she would. If anything, her spine became even straighter. She really wanted to know then.
You want to know why I’d want the shack you stayed in to be destroyed?” I whispered when I was only a few inches away from her and could stare deep into her green eyes.
She pressed her lips together, but didn’t respond.
“It’s because I kept going back there,” I rasped harshly. “Over, and over again.” There was a look of surprise in her eyes. She hadn’t expected that. “I’d been desperate to get a whiff of your scent and I’d almost lost my mind when the shack had stopped smelling like honeysuckle and vanilla,”
I wondered if she knew that was how she scented.

A mouthwatering combination that was messing with my head even now. I twirled a lock of her hair around my finger, letting my answer sink in.
“Why did you look for me then?” She asked back in a whisper. “Even when you found me, you had been
searching for someone else.”
I searched her eyes, realizing she really believed her words. “In the beginning, I hadn’t wanted to admit I’d made a mistake sending you away. Not even to myself,” I stated, hoping she heard the honesty in my voicé. “As for when I’d found you…” I held the back of her neck in my hand. “You best believe I was searching for you more than I was searching for the spineless wolf who’d betrayed my pack.”
A shaky breath escaped her, and then she took a step back, moving beyond my reach.
My hand fell lamely and I made a loose fist at my side when I heard her words. “I should get back.”
I didn’t try to stop her as she turned and exited the room.
