Chapter 344 Bloodline Test
Lady Flourish POV
Amara stood beside the testing table, watching the healer arrange the equipment.

She had agreed to the bloodline test that morning, but seeing the silver instruments and the protective runes carved into the floor seemed to have made her reconsider.
“Before we start,” she said, “I need to know what happens if something goes wrong.”
Elder Darego Erduado, who had been brought in to supervise the test, answered her directly. “We stop immediately. The test is designed to measure your response to the bloodline network, not force you to activate it. If either of you shows signs of losing control, the healers will end the session.”
“And if we activate it without meaning to?”
“The containment runes should limit the connection to this room,” he said. “We have also placed barriers around the testing area to prevent the signal from reaching the wider network.”
I looked at Amara. “We can stop whenever you want. You don’t have to prove anything to me.”
She nodded, though her attention remained on the runes beneath our feet.
The purpose of the test was simple. We needed to know whether Amara and I could safely activate the bloodline channel together.
Our connection had already shown signs of being stronger than expected,

but we had no reliable way to measure it.

Until we understood what our shared bloodline could do, activating the network without safeguards would be irresponsible.
Darego asked us to stand on separate markings inside the circle. A healer placed a small sample of our blood into two glass containers, then connected them to the testing device. The runes around the room began to glow faintly.
“Start with a low response,” Darego instructed. “Don’t reach for the network. Let the device measure what your blood produces naturally.”
I followed his instructions and focused on the faint pull I had felt during previous bloodline examinations. Amara did the same. At first, nothing happened beyond a small change in the readings.
Then the device sounded.
The healer checked the display. “Both responses are rising.”
“Reduce the output,” Darego ordered.
The healer adjusted the controls, but the readings continued to climb. I felt pressure behind my eyes and a sharp warmth spreading through my arms. Across from me, Amara gripped the edge of the table.
“Are you feeling that?” I asked.
“Yes.” Her voice tightened. “It’s getting stronger.”
Darego stepped closer to the circle. “Both of you, stop trying to respond. Let the connection fade on its own.”
I tried to pull back from the sensation, but my wolf had already become alert.

She recognized the bloodline energy and pushed against my restraint, reacting to something she seemed to understand better than I did.
“Something is calling us,” she warned.
Amara’s breathing changed. Her fingers tightened against the table, and dark claws began to extend from them.
“Amara?” I said.
She looked down at her hands. “I can’t stop it.”
My own nails lengthened before I could answer. A sudden pain ran through my shoulders as fur spread along my forearms.
My wolf was forcing a partial shift, and I could feel the same change happening across the circle.
“End the test!” Darego shouted.
The healer cut the device’s power. The runes dimmed, but the connection did not break. Amara gasped and bent forward, her eyes changing as her wolf pushed closer to the surface.
My teeth ached, and my hands had become difficult to control.
I reached for her across the space between us.
The moment our hands touched, the pressure increased. A pulse passed through the circle, bright enough to make the healers step back. The protective runes flared, and the floor beneath us vibrated.
“Separate them!” one healer called.
“No,” Darego said sharply. “Don’t touch either of them yet. The

I heard him, but I could barely focus on anything beyond Amara’s face. Her eyes had changed to the same shade mine took during a partial shift.
Her claws were fully extended, and fur covered the backs of her hands. My own wolf was equally close to the surface.
We were both shifting, yet neither of us had called for it.
“Flourish, let go,” Amara managed.
I tried to release her hand. My fingers resisted, and for one frightening moment I thought we had lost control completely.
Then the energy began to fall. The runes dimmed in stages, and the pressure eased enough for me to draw a full breath.
Our hands separated.
The shift receded slowly. My claws shortened, the fur disappeared, and the pain in my shoulders faded.
Amara sank into the nearest chair while a healer checked her pulse and examined her eyes.
“Are you hurt?” I asked.
“I don’t think so.” She swallowed and looked at her hands. “I didn’t choose to do that.”
“Neither did I.”
Darego reviewed the readings while the healers checked us both. He looked troubled, though he made no attempt to hide the results from us.

“The test was interrupted before we could measure the full response,” he said. “But the connection between you is much stronger than our records predicted. Your bloodline responses rose together, and the partial shifts began at almost the same moment.”
“Does that mean we can activate the network safely?” I asked.
“No. It means we cannot assume that activating it together will behave like an ordinary bloodline channel. We’ll need more research before
attempting another test.”
Amara stood when the healer finished examining her. She looked from Darego to me, still keeping her hands close to her sides.
“I need some time,” she said.
“You can have it,” I replied.
She left the testing room without making another decision about what would happen next.
I watched her go, then turned back to the healer as he packed away the equipment.
The test had ended, but we still had no answer about what our shared bloodline might do if we ever chose to activate the network together.
