The Lycan Marked Me and Walked Away
Chapter 8
Logan
The pack was on edge. I could feel it in the way they moved, how they averted their gazes whenever I walked past. Warriors stood a little straighter. Conversations quieted the moment I entered a room. No one dared to speak about it, but I could feel the questions hovering on their tongues. They knew. I didn’t need to hear them whispering behind my back to confirm it.
They had heard of the Omega I’d had in my bed. Heard of the striped sheets. And then, they had seen her being escorted out of the pack. Like she was nothing. Again, I wondered if I’d done the right thing. Made the right decision. Again, I pushed the thought away from my mind before I could reach a conclusion. I clenched my jaw as I strode toward the training grounds, trying to drown out the lingering scent of her that still clung to me, to my skin.
It didn’t matter. None of it mattered. I had done what I had to do. And whether anyone understood it or not, was none of my business. They could say I’d treated my mate in the harshest way possible, but they couldn’t deny they would hardly have accepted her if I’d chosen to make her queen. My queen. It was out of the question. They were all patiently waiting for me to bond with a strong female, and I knew I’d made the right decision.
So why did my chest feel hollow?
I forced my body through drills, pushing harder and faster, demanding my muscles give out before my thoughts could catch up with me. But my body didn’t break, and the thoughts didn’t stop. She was gone, but I could still taste her on my tongue. I could still hear the way she had said my name, her voice soft, hesitant. I could still see the way she had looked at me
as I’d joined myself to her in the most intimate way possible. The way she had arched so
perfectly as I ate-
I snapped.
The warrior I was sparring with moved to strike, but I was faster, already on him.

I tackled him to the ground with a force that sent a sickening crack through the air. I had abandoned her so cruelly. Who did that to their own mate? The wolf barely had time to gasp before my claws were at his throat, my wolf snarling inside me. She was probably wandering around in the woods right now. What if she stumbled into another territory she wasn’t supposed to? Or worse, what if she got surrounded by horny, crazed rogues who would waste no second pushing her to the ground and-
“King Logan,” someone’s voice cut through the haze, but I barely heard them. Because all I heard was her. The moans she tried to hold back. The ones she didn’t. The sound of my name on her lips. I wished I only heard. But I also felt. The soft skin of her flesh. The way her body had fit so perfectly against mine. I realized absentmindedly that I needed to let go of the wolf in my grip before I caused actual damage. I told myself to release him, but I somehow ended up doing the opposite.
I pressed down harder, a growl slipping from my chest. The warrior beneath me choked, his pulse hammering wildly against my palm. A firm hand clamped onto my shoulder, yanking me back. “Logan!” I snapped my head up. Cassian. His eyes burned into mine, the gold specks in them coming alive, unwavering, unafraid. “Enough,” he said, his voice sharp. My breathing was ragged, my claws still extended, but finally I was able to let go. The warrior scrambled back, his face pale as he clutched his throat.
I rose to my feet, shaking out my hands. My chest still ached. My pulse still thundered. Cassian didn’t move. “What the hell was that?” He demanded. Where everyone else cowered, Cassian didn’t hesitate to call me to order. Out of all the members of The Circle, he was probably the one who knew me best. But that didn’t mean he didn’t give me the respect I deserved. He just wasn’t afraid to let me know whenever I fucked up.
I exhaled slowly, steadying myself. He’d asked what that was? “Training.” I replied simply.
His jaw ticked. “That wasn’t training.” He replied. His voice lowered so only I could hear. “That
was you losing your damn mind.”
My patience snapped. “You want to test me next, Gamma?”

A muscle in his jaw jumped, but he didn’t back down, only leaning back a fraction. “You sent
her away on your own accord. Don’t punish anyone for your decision.” He whispered fiercely.
His words were like ice. I stilled, my pulse slowing. He was right. I had sent her away. And I
had to deal with the consequences on my own. His eyes searched mine before he exhaled
sharply, his shoulders relaxing as he ran a hand through his hair. “You can be such an idiot
sometimes.”

I bristled. “Watch your mouth, Cassian.”
“You know I’m right,” he said, crossing his arms. “You sent your mate away. A mate you had
marked. That’s not something you can recover from so easily,” he stated. “So rather than fight
the reminder, I suggest you start coming to terms with it.”
I turned away from him, my hands curling into fists. “I don’t need to come to terms with
anything.”
Cassian scoffed. “Whatever helps you forget her, I guess.’
I spun back to him, but he was already stepping away, shaking his head. “You can lie to
yourself all you want,” he muttered. “But the bond doesn’t just go away because you want it
to.” I ground my teeth, my breathing unsteady. I already knew that. But if I let myself think
about it, even for a second-if I let myself feel-
I would never come back from it.
And that would be the end of us all.
