Chapter 81
Logan
The fire crackled low in the hearth as I leaned back in the leather armchair, my hands clasped with my
elbows resting on my knees. Lívia sat cross-legged on the couch across from me, a steaming mug in hand,
while Nessa paced the room, clearly impatient. “You’ve been sulking,” Livia said without looking up from
her mug. She sounded tired. “It’s not your best look.”
“I’m not sulking,” I muttered, even though I kind of was. I couldn’t help it. I had barely a few minutes to
finish up with planning Sienna’s surprise before she got back from picking Elias up at the academy. I’d
asked Livia and Nessa to stop by the mansion after they were done attending to their duties in the pack
because, well, there was really no else I could talk to about the surprise I had in mind for Sienna.
We’d been coming up with and discarding ideas for the past thirty minutes and all three of us were
mentally exhausted at this point. I’d delayed long enough and I’d decided I was throwing the surprise
today. Did I hope I could finally thaw the rest of the ice around Sienna’s heart-that had admittedly slowly
been melting off ever since she got back from Mara’s pack? Yes. Yes, I did. Was I impatient to win her forgiveness so I could finally have her whenever and wherever I wanted?
Yes. Yes, I was
I hadn’t realized when I’d been making my vow to keep my hands off her until she had completely forgiven
me that it would be the worst punishment I would have to endure. She’d been giving me signs here and
there to me ne know she was tired of the wait-brushing her body against mine whenever she got the
chance, stealing kisses and grinding her hips into mine, having a hard time keeping her gaze off my body-
and still, I was determined to keep my promise to her.
I wasn’t touching her until she let me know-sincerely-that she’d decided to move on from the past.
“You’re brooding,” Nessa chimed in, snapping my attention back to the present. She turned to Livia.
“There’s a difference. Sulking is for pups. Brooding is for Lycan King who’ve hurt their mates so badly, they
have no idea how to redeem themselves.” I shot her a glare but she only grinned in return, flopping down
beside Livia. They weren’t wrong. I was sulking, brooding, whatever it was they wanted to name it.
I hadn’t realized how difficult it would be trying to-for lack of better words-redeem myself. Every idea I’d
come up with felt like it wasn’t enough, even though Livia and Nessa had assured me Sienna was going to
appreciate whatever I did no matter what. “We have to come up with something,” I urged them, and even

though I could see the frustrated look on their faces, I was grateful for their patience.
ad discarded almost all the ideas they’d come up with, after all.
Livia raised an eyebrow. “Something romantic you mean?”
I nodded. “But not flashy. She’d hate that.”
Nessa perked up. “What about the clearing past the northern ridge? The one with the fireflies?”
I tried to remember the location she was talking about, and it came to me in an instant. I hadn’t thought
about that place in years. It used to be where I trained as a pup-quiet, peaceful, hidden. I instantly knew I
was going to take Elias out there sometime. In the meantime, it was a perfect location. “We’d need
lanterns.” I said, my mind already going a thousand miles per minute. “A table. Soft lighting. Something
simple but beautiful.”
Livia had her phone out immediately. “I’ll get the Omegas to prep the space. Some of them owe me favors.”
She added, subtly explaining that it wouldn’t be an order and wordlessly letting me know they would get
the job done with their whole heart.
“I’ll handle the food,” Nessa chimed in. “And I’ll make sure Sienna doesn’t show up in her boots and
braid.”
I stood, finally feeling like I could breathe. “Thank you.” I said gratefully as they began heading out before
Sienna would get back.
Nessa glanced back with a smirk. “Don’t mess this up, Your Highness.”
The clearing looked nothing like I remembered it.
Twinkling lanterns floated above, strung between the branches like fallen stars. A single table stood in the
middle, low and intimate, laid out with a meal of things I remembered Sienna saying she loved-rosemary
roasted chicken, buttered vegetables, honey bread. Soft music filtered through the trees from a hidden
speaker. It felt like something out of a story.
I heard footsteps.

I turned just in time to see my mate emerge from the trail, guided by Nessa, who winked before slipping
away.
Sienna stood at the edge of the clearing, dressed in a simple navy dress that brushed her knees. Her hair
was pinned loosely, wisps framing her face. Her eyes widened as she took the scene all in. I’d been
nonchalant almost the entire time she’d gotten back from picking Elias up from the academy, wanting the
surprise to hit harder.
I was a hundred percent sure she hadn’t been expecting something like this.
“You did this?” she asked softly.
I stepped forward. “Yeah. I wanted to… apologize. Properly.”
She didn’t speak, so I took it as my sign to continue.
I took a step further, taking a hold of her hands. “I am so sorry. I never should’ve made you feel like less than you deserved. I never should have sent you away because of some misunderstood prophecy. I didn’t trust the bond, but more I importantly I didn’t trust that you were the right person for me. And I can’t change the past, but I want to be better in the future.” I gently cupped her cheek, touching her forehead
with mine. “For Elias, for you. For us.”
Her throat bobbed as she swallowed.
She cupped my cheek in turn, and then she said the words I’d been longing to hear for so long.
‘I forgive you, Logan.”
