Chapter 26
AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
As expected, I heard Celine crying the moment I stepped into the packhouse.

“I did this for the pack!” she sobbed, her voice echoing through the room. “How was I supposed to know there had been a mix-up with the herbs?”
I slowed to a stop.
Logan stood in front of her, his expression grim, while Alaric stood beside him. The sight of him immediately caught my attention.
Alaric was no longer the Alpha. Logan was.
So if Alaric had come all the way to the packhouse, this clearly wasn’t some minor issue.
Celine was still crying, tears slipping down her cheeks as she pleaded her case. But the moment her eyes landed on me standing by the entrance, something in her expression shifted.
The tears remained, but the innocence disappeared.
Karla scoffed inside me.
Look at her.
I almost smiled.
I’ll give her the look of an Oga.
“Ava!”
Celine’s shout snapped through the room.
Everyone turned.
Some looked at me. Others stared at Celine as if they couldn’t believe she had the audacity to address
me that way.
I couldn’t care less.
There was no point pretending anymore.
Celine rushed toward me, her face flushed and her voice hoarse from all the crying.
“This is all your fault!”

“How dare you come here?” she demanded, pointing an accusing finger at me. “If you hadn’t been acquainted with Alpha Kign, his pack’s herbs wouldn’t have been mixed up with ours. Or maybe you
did it deliberately!”
Karla rolled her eyes.
Wonderful acting skills.
I folded my arms and looked Celine straight in the eyes.
“What a performance.”
Her expression faltered.
“I explained everything you needed to know before you started working here,” I continued calmly. “You
were the one who repeatedly asked me to help you understand how things were done. I did exactly
that. You even started using my office whenever you wanted to.”
I took a step closer.
“I’ve done nothing but help you since you arrived. So tell me, Celine. How exactly does this mix-up have anything to do with me?”
Her mouth opened, but no words came out.
For a moment, she simply stared at me.
Then her eyes hardened.
The next thing I saw was her hand flying toward my face.
She didn’t get the chance.
I caught her wrist before it could reach me.
Her eyes widened.
I slapped her.
The sound cracked through the packhouse, silencing every whisper.
Celine stumbled backward, clutching her cheek as she stared at me in disbelief.

“How dare…”
“Shut up.”
My voice was quiet, but the warning in it was enough to make her freeze.
I stepped toward her, my gaze cold.
“How dare you raise your hand against your Luna?”
Celine’s lips trembled.
I held her gaze.
“Or have you forgotten that I’m still your Luna?”
Her eyes widened, and for once, she had nothing to say.
Logan finally stepped forward.
“Ava, stop this drama. People are watching.”
I turned my head toward him slowly.
“When she tried to hit me, people were watching too.
He fell silent.
A small smile touched my lips.
“Besides, I’m a magnanimous person. I won’t hold a grudge against her.”
Celine immediately opened her mouth.
But Logan shot her a sharp glare.
She swallowed whatever she had been about to say.
Then Logan looked back at me.
“Well, it’s good you’re here. My father was actually looking for you.”
Something about his tone made the smile disappear from my face.
I said nothing.
Instead, I gave Celine one last glance before turning away and walking toward Alaric.

The murmurs behind me followed, but I ignored them.
The moment I reached him, Alaric turned and began walking. I followed until we were far enough from
the others that our conversation couldn’t be overheard.
He finally stopped.
“Ava.”
I waited.
“Logan told me it seems you have some sort of personal relationship with Alpha Kion.”
My eyebrows lifted, but before I could respond, Alaric continued
“This is a serious matter. If the herbs from Celestial Pack were mixed with ours, it could easily be interpreted as an act of aggression. You understand what that could lead to.”
I remained silent.
“We all know how skilled Celestial Pack’s warriors are,” he continued. “One wrong move could turn this
into a pack war.”
My fingers curled slightly at my sides.
Then he delivered the part I had been expecting.
“Your father may have to step in.”
I stared at him.
My father.
Of course.
Alaric knew exactly what he was doing.
My father had once fought beside him, and Alaric had even saved his life. If Alaric asked him for help, my father would hardly be able to refuse.
Alaric studied my expression before adding, “But, of course, if you can fix this mess yourself, your
father won’t have to get involved.”
There it was.
The threat hidden beneath the concern.

My law tightened.
Karla stirred inside me, her anger rising with mine, but I forced her down.
Don’t, I warned her silently.
Because I understood what Alaric was really asking.
He wanted me to clean up Celine’s mess.

And if I did, Celine would walk away from this without consequences. Logan would have one less
problem to deal with, and everything would return to normal
Exactly what I didn’t want.
I lowered my eyes for a moment, my mind racing.
If I solved this problem, I would be protecting the very people I was trying to bring down.
I frowned.
This was becoming far more complicated than I had expected.

“Ava, calm down.”
Nyx’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
I took another sip of my soda, staring blankly at the glass.
I didn’t want alcohol.
I needed a clear head, especially with everything that had happened.
Nyx watched me take another drink before sighing.
“Can you stop drinking soda for five minutes?”
I glanced at her.
She reached across the table and gently pushed the glass away from me.
I stared at it before letting out a small laugh.
Nyx shook her head.
“You’re even more difficult to please than Corin.”

Despite myself, I smiled.
The teasing helped more than I wanted to admit.
For the first time since leaving the packhouse, the knot in my chest loosened slightly.
My phone suddenly dinged.
I pulled it out and glanced at the screen.
Lucian.
Lucian: Working overtime?
I stared at the message for a second before typing.
Me: No. I’m at a bar.
I sent it.
The screen remained silent.
No reply.
After waiting a moment, I locked my phone and slipped it back into my bag.

I stayed with Nyx a little longer, talking about anything that could keep my mind from wandering back
to Alaric’s warning.
Eventually, though, it was time to leave.
Nyx waved as we parted, a smile on her face as she told me she had somewhere else to be too.
By the time I reached home, the night had settled completely.
I unlocked the door and stepped inside.
Then I stopped.
The living room lights were on.
My eyes moved toward the table.
A takeout container sat there neatly, still untouched.
A small smile tugged at my lips.
I could almost picture Lucian standing there in his usual black clothes, expression as cold and

unreadable as ever, setting the food down before disappearing without a word.
Mysterious as always.
I glanced at the takeout again.

I was already too full from the sodas to eat much, but the thought behind it still warmed something
inside me.
Then I noticed something else.
The door to Lucian’s side of the house was open.
Light spilled through the doorway.
I stared at it for a moment.
He was home.
My curiosity won.
I walked over and stopped outside his door before knocking lightly.
“Not asleep?”

The way this story holds its emotional promises across chapters is really something.
