AVA’S POINT OF VIEW
Soon, Lucian walked toward the door.
“No.”
It was the first time I had seen him in pajamas.

He wore an all-black set, the dark fabric contrasting sharply with his pale skin. His hair was still slightly damp, a few strands falling messily across his forehead as though he had only just stepped
out of the shower.
For a moment, I simply stared.
Then I pressed my lips together and quickly looked away.
Lucian’s gaze settled on me. His expression remained unreadable, his face giving away absolutely
nothing.
“What’s wrong?”
The question caught me off guard.
I looked back at him and forced a small smile.
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just wanted to thank you for the meal.”
I waited.
Lucian said nothing.
He simply stared at me, his eyes seeming to ask questions his expression refused to reveal.
Finally, he said, “You’re welcome.”
And that was it.
Neither of us moved.
The silence stretched between us, growing increasingly awkward as we stood there staring at each other with nothing left to say.
I cleared my throat.
“Would you mind if I asked you something?”

“Go ahead.”
Thesitated before asking, “If your enemy needed your help, would you help them?”
His eyes remained on mine.
For a second, his expression didn’t change, but one of his brows lifted slightly.
Even I was surprised by the question.

Why had I asked him that?
I almost smacked my forehead.
When Lucian continued staring at me without answering, I immediately shook my head.
“Never mind. Forget I asked.”
I turned toward the door.
What was wrong with me?
“No. I wouldn’t.”
His deep voice stopped me in my tracks.
I slowly turned back.
Lucian was watching me, his cold eyes fixed on mine.
“You wouldn’t help them?”
One brow rose.
His expression was so flat that, for a moment, I felt ridiculous for asking the question in the first place.
I nodded awkwardly.
“If I may ask…” His gaze sharpened. “Who?”
I blinked.
Mr. Mysterious really did have a way of surprising me.
He keeps surprising us every day, Karla remarked in my head.
I ignored her.

“Let’s just say the person is really close to me.”
Lucian didn’t respond immediately.

He seemed to consider my words before finally saying, “Keep your enemies closer.”
I stared at him for a moment before a small smile tugged at my lips.
“Thanks.”
He gave a slight nod.
I turned and walked out.
The moment I stepped into the hallway, my smile disappeared.
Keep Celine and Logan closer?
Absolutely not.
The thought alone made my stomach twist.
But unfortunately, Lucian was right about one thing. If I wanted to know what they were planning, I had to stay close enough to watch them.
That was exactly why I had come here in the first place.
To get away from them.
To have my own space.
To watch from a distance without allowing them to know what I was doing.
I closed my eyes briefly before heading back inside.
Even after lying down, I couldn’t shake the restless feeling crawling beneath my skin. Something was bothering me, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was.
I reached for my phone and texted Nyx.
Me: Can you send me the pack rankings? I want to know who’s currently at the top.
Her reply came a little later.
Nyx: Hey, I can’t get that right now.
Me: Okay, thanks.

A few seconds later, another message appeared.
Nyx: But I can find out about your pack.
I stared at the screen before typing back.
Me: Never mind. Thanks anyway.
I locked my phone and placed it beside me.
Just as I was about to close my eyes, something suddenly clicked in my mind.
I immediately grabbed my phone again and dialed Alaric’s number.
He picked up within seconds.
“Ava.”
Before I could say anything, he continued, “Are you working on the mix-up issue?”
“Yes. That’s actually why I called you.”
“What do you need?”
His voice sounded impatient, almost as though he already knew he wasn’t going to like what I had to
say.
“The herbs this pack consumed were meant for the Celestial Pack. Do you realize how much those herbs cost?”
“Do you think I’m not aware?”
I could practically hear the irritation in his voice.
I ignored it.
“Then you should understand why-”
“Or do
you want me to invite Alpha-”
“No.”
His answer came so quickly that I smiled.
“That would only cause a brawl.”
“Exactly.”

I settled more comfortably against the pillows.
“Well, if this pack wants to avoid losing even more money, you might as well listen to my condition. That way, we can make sure this mistake doesn’t happen again.”
There was a brief silence.
Then Alaric sighed.
“What’s your condition?”
The next morning, I woke to an empty house.
Lucian was already gone.
I wasn’t surprised.
I quickly got dressed and shifted into my wolf before making my way toward the pack.
By the time I reached the packhouse, voices were already spilling through the doors.
I stepped inside.
“As expected of Celine. She’s so domineering.”
Tala was the first to applaud.
A few others followed, their scattered claps gradually filling the room.
Celine smiled proudly before clearing her throat.
“As you’ve all seen, I’m not only your marketing supervisor. I’m also Alpha Logan’s sister, and this pack
is my business as well.”
Her gaze swept across the room.
“As for the discrepancies concerning the herb mix-up, if you want to keep your jobs, you know exactly what you should and shouldn’t say. If I hear any rumors, don’t blame me for showing no mercy.”
A mocking laugh escaped me.
It echoed through the room.
The applause died instantly.
Every head turned toward the doorway.

Lstood there, letting the silence settle before walking inside.
My hair was styled neatly in an updo, and I had kept my makeup light. I could feel the curious gazes following me as I crossed the room.
Celine’s smile vanished.
“What are you doing here?”
Then her eyes narrowed.
“Oh, I know. Are you here to ask me to approve your funding again?”
She planted one hand on her hip, her arrogance returning almost instantly.
Despite the disaster she’d caused, Logan and Alaric had still allowed her to remain in her position.
Apparently, that had made her believe she was untouchable.
I smiled.
“I’m here to say hello to everyone.”
I paused.
“And to remind you to check the envelopes on your desks.”
Confusion swept through the room.
One by one, people hurried toward their desks, searching through the papers until they found the envelopes.
Celine’s eyes narrowed.
“Why are you being so mysterious?”
Before I could answer, someone spoke from across the room.
“Luna Ava will now be cross-checking every detail concerning the pack’s affairs before anything is distributed.”
Tala froze.
Her face drained of color.
“Impossible!”
The word slipped from her lips before she could stop herself.

I glanced at her.
Then at Celine.
The look on their faces was almost enough to make me smile.
Celine’s confidence faltered.
“My brother gave you this position?”
I almost laughed.
No. Your father did.

Yesterday, I had managed to convince Alaric that everything being processed within the pack should pass through me before it reached Logan.
After all, if Celine was involved, Logan would probably approve it without looking twice.
I didn’t tell Alaric that part.
Instead, I gave him enough practical reasons to agree that I should be responsible for checking the pack’s finances, resources, and distributions.
Now, I looked at Celine and smiled sweetly.
“I’m his Luna. What did you expect?”
Her expression tightened.
I could practically see how much she hated hearing those words.
But I wasn’t finished.
“Well, putting that aside…”
I stepped farther into the room, deliberately taking my time as everyone’s attention shifted toward me.
“I do have a few important announcements to make.”
