“Why should Ava, a clown dressed in cheap, low-quality clothing, get the attention of someone like
that?”
The insult had barely left Celine’s mouth before another voice cut through the room.
“What did you say?”
The woman who had been speaking to Ava turned slowly.
There was nothing loud or threatening about her movement, yet the atmosphere seemed to shift the moment she took a step toward Celine. Her back was straight, her chin slightly raised, and there was
an unmistakable authority in the way she carried herself.
She stopped directly in front of Celine and glanced down at the dress she was wearing before lifting
her eyes again.
“This is the first time I’ve ever heard someone describe one of my designs as a ‘three-no product.””
A murmur passed through the room.
Celine’s expression faltered for the briefest moment, but she quickly folded her arms across her chest.
“And who are you?”
Before the woman could answer, Katherine suddenly gasped.
“Oh, I know who she is.”
Everyone turned toward her.
“She’s Seraphina Blackwood.”
Katherine’s voice was filled with excitement.
“From the Blackwood Pack. Their pack is one of the most powerful packs in this region, and they have influence far beyond it. She’s also an internationally renowned luxury designer.”
Seraphina’s lips curved into a small smile.
Katherine seemed encouraged by the reaction and hurried to explain herself.
“Celine, just so you know, the dress Ava is wearing is a highly limited custom design. It was made. using fabric reserved for the ancient Lunas. That’s why it doesn’t have a brand tag.”

She paused, letting the information sink in.
“That dress is worth more than all of our dresses combined.”
Celine’s face drained of color.
“What?”
Her gaze snapped toward Ava.

“Wait… Ava is wearing a dress personally designed by someone from the Blackwood Pack?”
The whispers around us grew louder.
“So it isn’t some cheap, nameless dress?”
“She’s wearing a custom piece?”
“Seraphina Blackwood made that?”
Celine’s fingers curled against her palms, her nails pressing into her skin as humiliation spread across
her face.
But I barely noticed her.
My attention remained fixed on Ava.
She stood there as though none of this had anything to do with her, calmly speaking with Seraphina
while the entire room seemed to revolve around them.
Something twisted unpleasantly in my chest.
I didn’t understand what was happening.
Why was Seraphina Blackwood so interested in Ava?
And why did the sight of them together bother me so much?
Seraphina turned back toward Celine,
“From this moment onward, I will no longer sell any of my designs to you.”
Celine’s eyes widened.
“And I will personally inform the manufacturers I work with that anyone who wishes to continue doing business with me will not be permitted to do business with you, Miss Celine.”
“You can’t do that!”

Celine’s voice rose.
“How can you bully people like this?”
Seraphina didn’t even bother responding.
Instead, she turned her attention back to Ava.
She studied her for a moment, then smiled.

“As expected. Your vision really is exceptional. The clothes I designed look even better on you than I
imagined.”
She extended her hand.
“Would you, Luna Avery be willing to model for me sometime? I would only need a little of your time.”
Ava smiled and shook her hand.
“I’d be happy to.”
I stared at them.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Fenrir stirred inside me.
You really are clueless.
His amusement was unmistakable.
She continues to surprise you.
I clenched my jaw.
“I wonder if Luna Avery would do me the honor of visiting my pack sometime?”
Seraphina’s invitation was direct.
Ava’s smile widened.
“It would be my pleasure.”
My stomach dropped.
She was actually going?
As my mate, leaving a family banquet halfway through the evening to socialize with someone from

another pack should have been something we discussed first. At least, that was what I told myself.
But beneath that irritation was something else.
Something I didn’t want to acknowledge.
I didn’t want Ava walking away.
“Ava?”
She didn’t stop.
She simply followed Seraphina toward the exit, accompanied by the two wolves guarding her.
My hand tightened around the glass in my hand.
She had heard me.
I knew she had.
She simply chose not to respond.
“Logan, how do you usually manage your mate?”
Elowen’s voice dragged my attention back.
She planted her hands on her hips, staring after Ava.
“In front of all these relatives, she just walks away with a stranger? What kind of behavior is that?”
I had no answer.
My eyes remained fixed on Ava’s retreating figure.
She was already speaking to Seraphina again, completely at ease.
Something hot crawled beneath my skin.
Anger.
That was what I told myself it was.
But Fenrir knew better.
You’re angry because she didn’t look back.
I ignored him.

That pack wasn’t one anyone should take lightly. Their influence stretched far beyond our territory, and having someone like Seraphina Blackwood openly favor Ava could benefit our family enormously.
My father seemed to understand that immediately.
“That’s enough, Elowen.”
His voice was calm, but it silenced her.
He looked toward the direction Ava had disappeared.
“Seraphina Blackwood invited Ava herself. That doesn’t embarrass us. It tells everyone in this room
that Logan’s mate is someone worth noticing.”
He glanced at me.
“We all know the Blackwood Pack’s status. If someone of Seraphina’s position wants a relationship
with Ava, then we should consider that an opportunity.”
I swallowed.
“Dad’s right.”
The words came out more easily than they should have.
Elowen lowered her gaze and stepped away without another argument.
My father approached me and placed a glass of red wine in my hand.
“A true man knows when to bend and when to stand firm,” he murmured. “Don’t let your emotions cloud your judgment. If Seraphina Blackwood thinks highly of Ava, you should make use of that
connection.”
I looked at him.
He lowered his voice,
“After all, the marriage between our family and hers was arranged for a reason.”
My fingers tightened around the glass.
“I understand, Dad.”
He patted my shoulder before walking away.

Lstood there alone.
His words settled heavily in my mind.
Ava’s value.
Her connections.
Her usefulness to the family.
That was what I had always told myself.

I didn’t love her. I hadn’t married her because I wanted her. Our marriage had been an arrangement,
and I’d never pretended otherwise.
So why did my chest still feel strangely tight?
Why had I been unable to look away when she walked out?
I took a slow breath.
If I thought of Ava as an asset, as someone who could strengthen our family’s position, then
everything became simple again.
I could work with that.
I had to.
*******
Later, when the banquet had grown quieter and everyone had become occupied with their own. conversations, I finally spotted Ava standing alone.
I waited until no one was watching before approaching her.
“What did you go out there to talk about?”
Ava turned toward me.
There was a faint, almost playful smile on her lips.
“Oh, she wants me to meet someone special.”
I narrowed my eyes.
I couldn’t tell whether she was being sarcastic.
“Who?” I asked, my instincts immediately kicking in..

“I don’t know. Probably a man of someone,” she said with a smile.
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, she shrugged.
“But I don’t know. I haven’t met the special person yet.”
“Why are you asking?” she continued. “Do you think I would cheat on my mate?”
The words struck harder than they should have
My entire body went still.
Fenrir fell silent.
For once, he had nothing to say.
Because we both knew the truth.
I looked away.
Guilt seeped into my chest, slow and suffocating.
Ava had never accused me of anything.
She didn’t need to.
Her question alone was enough to remind me of everything I’d done.
Everything I’d hidden.
Everything she didn’t know.
“Don’t worry,” she said lightly. “I would never cheat on my mate. People who betray their mates eventually pay the price. The Moon Goddess doesn’t overlook that kind of betrayal.”
She smiled.
“And I’m a Luna, I wouldn’t dare.”
I forced myself to look at her.
Her expression was so innocent that it made the guilt inside me worse,
Then she tilted her head.
“Honey, why do you look so pale?”
I couldn’t answer.

She stepped closer, her voice softening.
“I believe you wouldn’t betray me, so don’t be afraid. People who cheat on their mates deserve whatever consequences some their way.”
My throat tightened.
She continued casually, unaware of the storm she was creating inside me.
“Didn’t you hear about that man and his mistress in the news? Their betrayal ruined everything for
them. What goes around comes around.”
“Alright.”
My voice came out strained.
“Alright, stop talking about it.”
I rubbed the back of my neck, desperately trying to steady myself.
Fenrir shifted uneasily inside me.
She trusts you.
I closed my eyes for half a second.
That was the problem.
Ava trusted me.
And I didn’t deserve it.
When I opened my eyes again, Ava was watching me differently.
The playful warmth had disappeared from her expression. She simply stared ahead, her face unreadable, as though she had already withdrawn into herself.
I watched her for a moment, unsure of what to say. Then, almost before I could stop myself, I asked,
“Are you coming home tonight?”
The question was simple, but the moment it left my mouth, it felt heavier than everything else I had said that evening.
