Chapter 5
I turned around and caught the flicker of jealousy and shock flashing across her face.
Joshua was frozen in place, his eyes locked on the girl in my arms.
“How old is she?” His voice was unsteady.
I frowned. I didn’t want to say anything more in front of my daughter. I simply said, “Alpha Joshua,
I’ve already told you, we shouldn’t be seeing each other again.”
“And this is private property. Please leave.”
Hailey tilted her head and looked at them curiously. “Mommy, who are these people?”
Sarah’s face turned even uglier when she heard Hailey call me “mommy.”
She reached for Joshua, clearly trying to say something, but a voice from the house interrupted her!
“Hailey? What’s got you so excited?”
That deep, magnetic voice made my heart skip a beat.
Adam? I thought he wasn’t coming back until tomorrow.
Hailey’s eyes lit up as she squirmed in my arms. “Daddy! Daddy!”
She cupped my cheeks with her small hands. “Mommy, this is the surprise I prepared for you!”
Before her words even finished, a tall figure stepped out of the house.
Adam was dressed casually, but even in loungewear, he couldn’t hide the effortless nobility in his
aura.
He walked straight over, wrapped an arm around me, and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Alpha
business ended early. Thought I’d come back sooner to be with you and Hailey.”
His voice was soft, affectionate. And just like that, my heart melted.
It had been seven years. Seven years of him giving me this unwavering warmth in his own quiet
way.
“Surprised?” he whispered in my ear.
I nodded, smiling until my eyes curved into crescents. It was then he finally noticed the two people
behind me.
His
gaze swept across Joshua and Sarah. His brows pinched slightly. “And you are?”

joshua’s face was a mask of fury. His eyes were locked on Adam’s arm draped around my shoulder,
his lips pressed into a hard line.
Sarah, however, recovered quickly. She plastered on a polite smile. “Alpha Adam, so you’re
Allison’s mate.”
“Oh, where are my manners? I’m Sarah Grant, and this is my mate, Alpha Joshua of the bloodmoon pack.”
“We’re old acquaintances of Allison’s. Just happened to run into her and offered her a ride home
Adam’s expression turned cold in an instant.
His grip on me tightened just a little. “Ah. Alpha Joshua and Luna Sarah.”
“Allison has mentioned you both.”
He paused, then smiled faintly, a cool edge in his voice. “But since you’re part of the past, there’s
no need for further contact.”
“Nick, see them out. And next time, don’t let strangers into the pack territory.”
Beta Nick stepped forward immediately and gestured politely toward the gate.
Sarah’s face turned pale, tinged with green. She tried to say something, but Joshua shook her off.
He was staring at me with a look I couldn’t quite read.
Sarah tugged at him again. “Joshua, let’s go.”
But he didn’t move. His eyes never left mine as he asked, slowly and deliberately, “How old is your daughter?”
I frowned. I had no intention of answering.
But Adam cut in coldly. “Six. Why? Does that have anything to do with you?”
Six years old.
I had broken the mate bond with Joshua seven years ago.
And Hailey was six years old.
Joshua swayed slightly on his feet.
“Allison… you raised our daughter alone?”
